My name is Jake Rubin and I'm a computer engineering student from Vancouver, Canada.
I am entering my third year of the University of British Columbia's computer engineering program, expecting to graduate in April 2024.
My interest in programming began at age 11 when my uncle introduced me to Codecademy, and I first experimented with rudimentary HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
I then took information technology courses in high school which further reinforced my passion.
I'm interested to learn how to work in information technology, web development, machine learning and augmented reality.
I'm learning every day, and am excited to gain more knowledge and experience.
Below are ways to contact me and view my work, and my resume is available to download on the navigation bar.
Being out in the forest is one of the most calming and invigorating experiences for me.
I'm always excited to find a good trail to hike or peak to summit, and I'm just getting started.
In many cases it's not about the destination but the journey that takes you there,
but in this case I say both are equally fascinating.
Favourite Hikes Completed:
• Mount Elsay incl. Mount Seymour
• The Chief (1st Peak)
• Joffre Lakes
• Garibaldi Lake
• Grouse Grind / BCMC
• Kennedy Falls incl. Big Cedar
I'm a huge advocate for working out and keeping in shape.
Consistently exercising maintains my concentration, efficiency, and overall mental wellbeing, especially during the school year.
I'm also a fan of how uplifting the gym community can be, encouraging anyone from first-time gym-goers to pro bodybuilders.
Bench Press One-Rep PR: 275 lbs. (Dec. 2022)
Workout Music: Hardstyle, Dubstep, Metal, Phonk
I've played this instrument since the age of 5, and been self-taught since age 10.
I enjoy playing classical, modern, and jazz piano pieces, and have even written some of my own.
The challenge brought by challenging pieces is worth the effort, and I'm always eager to learn more.
Favourite Songs to Play:
• Moonlight Sonata (Full) by Ludwig van Beethoven
• Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy
• Nuvole Bianche by Ludovico Einaudi
• All of Me by Jon Schmidt
• Linus and Lucy by Vince Guaraldi
During the months I don't have schoolwork, solving puzzles helps to keep my brain going without burning me out.
I figure the logic of solving some of these problems can be quite applicable to my work with programming.
Favourite Puzzles:
• Sudoku
• Kakuro
• Logic Diagram Puzzles
